Our solar powered 12v DC lighting using PV panels can last around 20-30 years!

Using our back up low energy lighting system you do not pay for electricity generated by the sun. We provide 3 or 6 Bulb configurations using special 12v DC Low Energy CFL Bulbs. Additional bulbs, holders and cable can be purchased to provide your home with back-up or primary off-grid lighting. Bulbs are 12v DC Edison screw not bayonet. The battery (not supplied) is constantly pre charged during solar hours and can provide many hours of light. There is nothing worse than not having light available at night, particularly when connected to an external power grid.

There is nothing worse than a blackout and the promise of "normal service will be restored as soon as possible". Some strategically placed low voltage bulbs can provide sufficent light to carry on life as normal for a reasonable amount of hours. See our chart below for approximate calculations.

For more information about what these prices include please see the specification for more details. These calculations are based on a FULLY CHARGED BATTERY. Excluding any solar hours that will charge the battery from the solar panels placed on an external SOUTH FACING POSITION. Please bear in mind that towards the end of these sample hours above, the light will go dimmer.

INSTALLATION: As most "outages" takes place inconveniently during the winter, it is best to install the PV panel on a vertical plane to take advantage of the 'low travel' of the sun during these months. Do not install in a shaded position as this will affect optimum performance of the system. You may consider adding additional batteries to hold a greater power source for periods of time when reasonable radiation levels are not available.

MAINTENANCE: Always check your battery for oxidising on the terminals. Clean this deposit away and apply a light covering of oil jelly. Tighten any connections. Finally, ensure your battery storage area is well ventilated to ensure maximum efficiency and clear away any debris that may have accumulated around the battery box.
