As dedicated camping pod manufacturers, we are always striving to anticipate your needs. Our glamping cocoons are under 2.5m high, so there’s no need for planning permission. They are made from slow-grown spruce, a high-quality wood, and have pressure treated floor bearers. This means that the bearers will resist rot and insect infestation for up to ten years. Security is also a priority: we use the same 4-point locking system here as in our PremiumPlus cabins.
Avoid Planning Permission
This building is under 2.5m high. Why does this matter? Well, under permitted development rights buildings under 2.5m high can be placed as close as you want to a boundary (eg. a fence line) without planning permission. Buildings that are over 2.5m high, however, need to be placed over 2m away from any boundary (eg. a fence line), which means that with taller buildings you end up with a lot of space behind them. If you want to find out more about permitted development rights see our
planning guide
Free fixing pack
We include all the screws, nails and fixings needed to put your garden building together - not everyone is that thoughtful. It also saves you having to worry about what sort of screws you'll need, what length and other such things, the right fixing for the job is included in the kit!
Pressure Treated Floor Bearers
By pressure treating our floor bearers we protect the foundations from rot and insect infestation. It also provides the rasa pod with extra support and without pressure treated bearers moisture would damage the lower aspects of the Rasa Pod.
Commercial and personal use
The best thing about our Camping Pods is that they have a multitude of uses, primarily commercial and personal use. Commercial use ranges from campsites, bed and breakfast accommodation, fishing huts, agri-tourism, to small hotels. Personal use entitles you to use it any which way you see fit. This is ideally suited for those who have households with limited space. Our pods can also be used as Garden Offices or a work space to carry out DIY projects, or as your very own man cave.
Pods for business (Excellent Return on Investment)
Our Camping Pods offer an exciting growth opportunity in the UK holiday market. The Camping Pod allows businesses to create non-intrusive accommodation in some of nature’s most beautiful places. Whether you’re a start-up business or a farm looking to diversify or even an established campsite with a spare field or woodland glade, a Camping Pod can help you release untapped revenue.
4 POINT DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM
Our PremiumPlus doors feature our industry leading four point locking system. It features a hook, locking latch and two roller locks. We use a type of lock known as a RASP cylinder. The reason we use this, is that it is a safer, more secure locking system as it prevents 'lock bumping' and 'cylinder snapping'. Our Premiumplus windows have multipoint locking as well, using the same type of system as we supply with our uPVC windows and doors.
10 YEAR TIMBER GUARANTEE
Our 10 year guarantee is for our pressure-treated timber, such as floor bearers. These arrive at your door already treated by us, and we guarantee that as long as you follow certain guidelines such as not burying them in the ground (full guidelines are here)
, your timber will remain fungus and insect free for up to ten years.
Slow Grown Spruce
We use slow grown spruce for the walls of all our Garden Buildings as it is better all round than pine! Spruce is less porous than Pine and so less likely to shrink, warp or split. We only select slowly grown timber from colder climates which also helps keep the timber more stable as the rings are densely packed. It is also a less resinous timber than Pine, which makes the possibility of sap ruining your clothes or furnishings much less likely.
A Glamping Pod is a building designed for people who love the outdoors and love the idea of camping, but not the idea of being in a cold and damp tent. A Glamping Pod can also be placed in your garden to be used as a retreat, man cave or even a kid’s playroom.

To ensure the very best quality, we only use slow-grown White Spruce Timber, which is harvested in cold climates to ensure solid, dense log rings. This gives the wood superior strength and longevity, and also a much more consistent colour than the likes of Pine.
Despite the care we take in selecting the very best Timber available, it’s not like predictable brick or cold steel, this natural material has characteristics and quirks unique to every log.
Because our timber logs once fed water and nutrients back and forth from its roots to its leaves, its very nature is to be porous and swell up when it gets wet. Any wooden product will do this throughout its life, but there are a few things you can do to help limit this movement.
These include:
1. A great design!
- Don’t worry, we’ve got this one covered. We’re experts when it comes to all things timber, so we have designed our products from the ground up with its natural properties in mind.
2. Water Repellent Treatment.
- How you customise and decorate your product is up to you, however we would recommend that you use an appropriate water repellent treatment. This really helps minimise the amount of moisture that the timber can absorb. Therefore minimising the risk of any major movement.
- (Please note: water repellent treatment is not the same as pressure treatment, which protects against rot and insect infestation, and which we guarantee for 10 Years!)
3. Ventilation.
- Keeping your timber building ventilated is no less important than keeping your house well ventilated. This is especially true if you plan to cover up your floorboards with something (double check with an expert, that the material is suitable to do so), as moisture can become trapped between layers of non-breathable materials and build-up, leading to floors becoming rotten.
4. Regular Seasonal Maintenance.
- Whether you opt to build your product yourself, or have us do it for you, don’t be afraid to tighten the odd bolt here and there. Your product is a life improving investment, so it’s only right to give it some love and care from time to time. Make sure that it’s properly treated before the rainy months, and you make adjustments to doors and window frames, when needed.
Natural Timber Properties
After building your timber product, this natural construction will begin to ‘settle’. This means that you will likely see some natural timber imperfections appear. These types of natural imperfections can include:

- Expansion and Contraction

Please be aware that, as these are natural timber properties they are not considered as defects under our Terms & Conditions (for more information, check out our Ts&Cs here). However, in most cases, these imperfections will not impact the integrity or function of your timber product, and/or can easily be rectified. For advice on how to rectify these and for more support, please get in touch with our Customer Services Team on cs@dunsterhouse.co.uk.
