Additional Information

To ensure the very best quality, we only use slow-grown White Spruce Timber, which is harvested in cold climates to ensure solid, dense log rings. This gives the wood superior strength and longevity, and also a much more consistent colour than the likes of Pine.

Despite the care we take in selecting the very best Timber available, it’s not like predictable brick or cold steel, this natural material has characteristics and quirks unique to every log.

Because our timber logs once fed water and nutrients back and forth from its roots to its leaves, its very nature is to be porous and swell up when it gets wet. Any wooden product will do this throughout its life, but there are a few things you can do to help limit this movement.

These include:

1. A great design!

  • Don’t worry, we’ve got this one covered. We’re experts when it comes to all things timber, so we have designed our products from the ground up with its natural properties in mind.

2. Water Repellent Treatment.

  • How you customise and decorate your product is up to you, however we would recommend that you use an appropriate water repellent treatment. This really helps minimise the amount of moisture that the timber can absorb. Therefore minimising the risk of any major movement.
  • (Please note: water repellent treatment is not the same as pressure treatment, which protects against rot and insect infestation, and which we guarantee for 10 Years!)
  • On pressure-treated timbers, you may notice some subtle striation marks. These marks sometimes appear during the drying process of timbers. Fear not! In time, the marks will begin to fade as the sun starts to lighten the wood.

Timber with Striation marks

3. Ventilation.

  • Keeping your timber building ventilated is no less important than keeping your house well ventilated. This is especially true if you plan to cover up your floorboards with something (double check with an expert, that the material is suitable to do so), as moisture can become trapped between layers of non-breathable materials and build-up, leading to floors becoming rotten.

4. Regular Seasonal Maintenance.

  • Whether you opt to build your product yourself, don’t be afraid to tighten the odd bolt here and there. Your product is a life improving investment, so it’s only right to give it some love and care from time to time. Make sure that it’s properly treated before the rainy months, and you make adjustments to doors and window frames, when needed.

Natural Timber Properties

After building your timber product, this natural construction will begin to ‘settle’. This means that you will likely see some natural timber imperfections appear. These types of natural imperfections can include:

Cracks

Cracked climbing frame timbers

Splits

Split Timbers

Shakes

Timber Shakes

Warping / Twisting

Expansion and Contraction

Please be aware that, as these are natural timber properties they are not considered as defects under our Terms & Conditions (for more information, check out our Terms and Conditions. However, in most cases, these imperfections will not impact the integrity or function of your timber product, and/or can easily be rectified. For advice on how to rectify these and for more support, please get in touch with our Customer Services Team on [email protected].

This porch is under 3m high. Why does this matter? Under UK permitted development rights, porches under 3m can be constructed without planning permission*. In addition, this porch doesn’t exceed 3 square meters.  If you want to find out more about permitted development, visit the planning portal.

*Please be advised that some exclusions may apply depending on property age, where it is situated etc. If in doubt, please check with your local planning authority.

The inner walls of our garden rooms are made using a fire resistant fibreboard for increased protection. This is a hard-wearing material made from recycled paper fibres and Gypsum (Hydrous Calcium Sulphate). The fibreboard is supplied unpainted so you can design and decorate the interior of your garden room to your own individual style. This material is a good surface for paint and is easy to wallpaper.

fire resistant inner wall for garden rooms

Our porches are easy to heat, and maintain a warm temperature in the winter while staying cool in the summer. Our porches feature polyisocyanurate insulation in the walls, roof and floor, creating a warm and inviting entrance. Polyisocyanurate is known for being a far superior insulative material than the alternatives of polystyrene, Rockwool or bubble wrap.

Our Addroom Garden Rooms come with an easy-to-install insulated roof panel that has an attractive grey slate tile effect appearance. This offers the best performance and aesthetic finish, imitating a traditional design that gives your building a modern look.
The 65mm thick insulated sandwich panel provides high levels of thermal efficiency and good sound insulation. It has a polyurethane insulation foam core protected by two sheets of pre-lacquered, galvanised and profiled steel. The upper tiled effect layer is formed by a total of six tiles, not five like others do, as it offers more resistance and insulation capacity. Polyurethane is a high density material with fantastic insulative properties. The lower steel plate is finished in basic white.
The roofing panel boasts a U-value of 0.32 W/m2K. This compares to 2.8-3.0 W/m2K that you might typically see on an old conservatory glass roof where there is air space between the panes of glass.
What’s a U-value?
U-values refer to the rate of thermal transmittance through a material or structure – how good a thermal conductor or insulator it is. U-values are measured by the unit W/m2K. The lower the U-value, the better!

The overlapping joining system gives the roof tight connections that help prevent leaks and humidity, ensuring warmth is kept in and doesn’t escape through the ceiling. The high quality roofing system has been subjected to numerous tests and controls to ensure the effective performance of its qualities and characteristics.

Our porches are designed with a high internal eaves height reaching 2.11m.  There’s plenty of room inside for people to walk around without bumping their heads and plenty of space making for a fully usable porch.

There’s no need for you or your guests to ‘duck’ on the way in through the door of the porch. With a tall walkthrough height of 6’0″ (1.84m) you’re free to move in and out of the porch with ease.

Possessing all the benefits of plastic and timber combined, WPC (Wood Polymer Composite) is ideal for use on outdoor buildings. It is hard-wearing, resistant to water and requires very little maintenance. The impressive brick effect design on the exterior walls enable you to match your garden room to your house. The traditional red coloured, natural toned brick will give an attractive finish to your garden room that will blend beautifully with your home. Meanwhile, the light grey/beige coloured brick effect will give your garden room a more contemporary feel for a modern look.

Please note that unpainted/untreated areas of WPC may differ slightly in colour due to manufacturing processes.

The security of your front porch is a key priority of ours, especially as this is a space that you will store belongings and will be in clear sight of others. Therefore, we have included our industry-leading 10-point locking system on the single PVCu door, as well as multipoint locking windows which feature secure key locking handles.

Our 10-point locking consists of four shoot bolts, three mushroom-headed espagnolettes, three hook bolts, a locking latch and a 6-pin euro cylinder. All our windows feature a multi-point locking system consisting of espagnolettes which move in opposite directions into metal keeps. Why would you risk your possessions by using less?

All of our garden buildings have pressure-treated floor bearers as standard. This treatment prevents the timber bearers from rotting for up to 10 years and causing your garden building to sink. Pressure treatment forces the wood preservative into the timber rather than simply dip treating (essentially just covering the exterior) like many companies still do. Who wants to have to annually deconstruct and re-treat the bearers each year!

Due to this costly but effective process, we can offer our customers a genuine 10-year guarantee against rot and insect infestation on the bearers.  We do however recommend applying a good quality water repellent to the timber to prolong the longevity of the timber. Shockingly many of our competitors still offer untreated bearers to keep their costs down, so beware!

All our Pressure Treated timber is for Use Class 3

Add a flyscreen to the windows of your garden building, so you can benefit from letting the fresh air in while keeping those pesky insects out, without restricting visibility. An insect screen will allow you to still view out of the window to survey your surroundings, watch nature and look out at the beauty of your garden.

flyroom screens for porches

As the effects of global warming take place, the Earth is changing, with reports suggesting an expected increase in the number of insects around the world. An increase in temperatures over the coming years will speed up the growth rate of some insects. This includes the domestic housefly, which could see a rapid rise in its population. Order your flyscreens now to protect you for the future.

Keeps out insects

It’s always nice to be able to throw open the windows of your garden room to enjoy a warm summer breeze or cooling air. With the addition of a flyscreen mesh, you can enjoy the warm weather without worrying about unwanted insects getting in. Keep those flying insects from buzzing around as you try to work in your garden office or relax in your summer house.

Ventilation and comfort

Ventilation and circulation of fresh air is also important for the wellbeing of you and your garden building and helps to maintain a relaxed and comfortable environment inside. Flyscreens for windows give effective protection so you don’t have the annoyance of flies and other creepy crawlies.

Durable materials

The fly mesh is made of strong and water-resistant materials to last. Easy to fit

It is provided as a simple ready to install screen to fit the size of your garden room or log cabin window and fixes to the window frame. Easy to follow instructions will be provided alongside your order.

Easy to use

The roller flyscreen is easy to operate, with a handle to pull it down when the window is open, and a small clip will keep the screen in place. When not in use, the retractable flyscreen design allows it to be discreetly hidden away.

Our garden rooms are supplied with domestic standard uPVC windows and door frames available in White as standard or Anthracite Grey Wood Effect. So you can either tie in with your home frame colours or customise your office or garden room!

Not all double glazing is the same, and what truly makes our double glazing stand out among the rest is the sealed unit. We supply a 28mm, double glazed sealed unit. These units comprise of 2 panes of 4mm toughened glass on either side of a 20mm aluminium spacer bar, designed to absorb any moisture within the sealed unit, which could lead to condensation inside the glazing. These sealed units comply to BS EN 1279 standards. This EN standard covers the requirements for insulating glass units, including thermal and sound insulation. The sealed units are independently tested to show that they will not suffer from any form of condensation within the unit.

We’ve been manufacturing uPVC windows and doors for over 30 years – so we really know our stuff!
