Fantastic........ You get what you pay for. We choose the triple therm well worth it . Its quiet ,its warm, its well designed, well built buy the experts,. A good investment. Believe me Im majorly fussy ... and its past my test. You must remember this is a natural product and things move . But if you follow all the recommendations and instructions you will never have a problem. Thrilled ... well done Dunster House. Ignore the negative lets praise the good things .
Very happy with our purchase and feel that we bought our cabin from the right supplier. Very easy during the ordering phase to which I made a few changes a couple of days later. Dunster House responded swiftly and rectified my order as requested with minimum fuss.
On the delivery day I was kept up to date with the arrival time of the driver and that was further enforced as the delivery truck is fitted with a GPS tracker which you can log onto at any time to track its whereabouts.
Delivery driver was most helpful and required very little help as the vehicle was fitted with its own forklift truck which made the unloading very easy and effortless. The packaging was excellent and all items very well secured and protected from the elements.
On opening the packages I familiarised myself with the instructions prior to the assembly. If totally honest I think the building instructions could be better laid out and easier to follow. I think if you're not of the tinkering sort you may find it very daunting.
Now the product itself. Very pleased overall with the wood quality although we did have a few of the 45mm logs with twists in them and became a slight issue at the end of the build but by using a few clamps we were soon able to take the twists out and secure. We found it very helpful that the window and door frames came pre assembled.
As our pictures show we opted to purchase heavy duty floor joists from the local builders merchants due to the concrete piling method I utilised for the sub base. Also purchased wider roof facias as I thought the ones supplied were too shallow for fitting good guttering at a later date.
The roof felting was carried out by a friend as he is a roofer so kind of cheated at that stage so can't really comment.
I would like to finish off by saying what a great product and that we are looking forward to the internal furnishing part. Mini bar and some nice seating including ambiance lighting.
Before I begin my review of the product (which is very positive I have to say) I must clear up an initial point about the handing of this cabin, which at the time of writing this, does not appear to be an option on the website. Don’t worry! You get spare timbers with the kit that allows you to hand-it in either way (door on the left or right as you look at it with the 2 windows facing you). Now, onto the review: the delivery lorry can be tracked online, which is great as it allows you to plan your day around your new purchase. The delivery guys were very helpful and dropped the wood off and stacked it in a logical build order, which is important when you start your build. The wood is very precisely cut which gives you snug joints and an excellent level of finish, however as things are so precise insuring you have a good level base is very important before starting the build process. The quality of our timber was very good and we only had one awkward piece to get into place, which actually wasn’t a big deal to resolve. Dunster House have a very good set of YouTube videos showing you how to resolve these sorts of things, which I highly recommend watching before starting your build. The windows and doors are good quality and come pre-built without glass, (glass is supplied and is fitted after the door/window installation) which is good as it makes them much easier to handle. We opted for the shingled roof, which is not as quick to install as a felt roof, it’s a little fiddly but looks really nice and finishes the cabin off. The build is definitely a 2 person job I would say and the instructions are a little lacking / open to interpretation in places. So, as someone else has mentioned, if you’re not normally a DIY minded person you may find it challenging. Regardless of your ability it’s worth taking the build (it took about 5 days for me) in stages, reading the instructions very carefully before each phase of the build in advance. If you adopt this approach I’m sure you will end up with a great result! We did make some slight modifications to our cabin: we added extra floor joists to eliminate any slight bounce, screwed the floor and roof boards down rather than nailing them (much easier to remove a board if you go wrong at any point), sealed the base of the cabin to the flag base to stop water ingress and added base ventilation holes with stainless covers. So to sum up: I have to say the cabin is excellent! The quality of materials and finish is very high, it’s light and spacious inside and it sits beautifully in the garden, we are extremely pleased with it!
We have purchased items from Dunster House twice now: once for a climbing frame which gave the kids years of fun and most recently a log cabin for the garden, which is fantastic! Would we recommend them....yes. Will we use them again...definitely.
Delivery service awful. No call to say when they would arrive just follow a tracker of where the van is on the road. Due to the number of drops it made it very hard to know when it would arrive. Expected to wait in all day. Would not even call as they left the previous drop. When the delivery arrived I was there to accept the delivery and help unload as requested by Dunster House. How ever the drivers refused to Carry to the garage and left half way up the drive and I had to carry the extra 5 metres. I don’t expect to pay over £3000 and have the product dumped on my drive and the drivers to be unhelpful and rude.
