Developing motor skills

Climbing plays a major part in the development of your child’s motor skills, both fine and gross. Gross motor skills use larger muscles to help your child walk, sit and balance. Smaller muscles that are strengthened by regular physical activity which help develop fine motor skills. The strengthening of these skills helps develop other life skills such as writing, buttoning up clothes and even playing physical sports in school.

Physical health

A report by the NHS states that a child aged between 1 and 4  needs three hours of moderate intensity workouts a day, whereas those between 5 and 18 need an hour. These don’t all need to be one set activity, but should be a mix such as climbing walls, running, jumping, etc. The one rule is that it must make you feel warm and slightly out of breath.

There are so many studies that show the health benefits of extra physical activity. Reducing the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, weight gain and helping you maintain a healthy lifestyle are just a few.

You may be reading this, horrified at the prospect of having to find another three hours in your day to spend at the park. We agree with you, attempting to find three hours a day to run around with your child is difficult, especially when you add in factors like work, housework and other day to day activities you need to get done. This is why the addition of a Climbing Frame will be a major time saver for you.

Once you have built it in your garden, you can let your child play whilst you get the tasks you set out to do completed. They will be having too much fun to notice you are gone, allowing you to get the jobs you need completed without battling your children.

Mental health

The organisation Mind lists the benefits of being outside on mental health. These are well documented papers that help prove that being outside can help with depression, anxiety and even help stave off Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Outdoor play reduces the level of the hormone cortisol, otherwise known as the fight or flight response, in the brain and reduces anxiety levels.

Last, but certainly not least, Climbing Frames allow your child to simply have fun. They live such busy lives; with school, chores, homework and routines. By getting them outside and letting them play, you encourage them to just relax and have fun. If you have ever taken your child to the park and watched them play, you will know we are right about this.
