Slow Grown Spruce Timber Log Cabins

All of our garden lodges are made from high quality slow grown spruce timber, rather than a mixed timber or cheaper material like pine. Mixing timbers will be less aesthetically pleasing to the eye, as the cabin walls will be a combination of colours. Spruce timber is whitewood giving the overall finished product a  crisp, neat and uniformed look.

Slow grown spruce has properties far superior to alternate materials. It is a lot more resilient to warps and splits, there are far fewer knots and it doesn’t produce as much sap. Slow grown spruce is also known to be more dense, durable and stable as it expands and contracts less than pine. The stability of the spruce timber minimises the number of gaps that will appear throughout all four seasons.

Alternatively, our WarmaLog insulated log cabins are an innovative concept with a 62mm sandwich of timber and polyisocyanurate. Their U-Value is equivalent to 140mm wall thickness. An ideal option for any weather, keeping the room warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Fully insulated sandwich panels and double glazed windows that come as standard will contribute to keeping the room cosy for you and your loved ones to enjoy all year round.

Our insulation options are quick and easy to install into your log cabin and help promote heat retention, thus saving you on your heating bills. We supply polyisocyanurate insulation because it is a far better insulator than rockwool or polystyrene.

Don’t forget, your spruce log cabin is made of timber, a natural product that will contract and expand according to the UK’s unpredictable weather. Once the cabin is erected, there will be a period of “settling” as the wood reacts and adjusts to the surrounding climate. Splits and cracks may occur over time but that shouldn’t compromise the quality and integrity of your garden building.

The use of interlocking tongue and groove timber in our log cabins help with the strength and stability of the walls, as well as the natural expansion and contraction of the timber.

Log Cabin Wall Thickness

Our log cabins are available in a range of wall thicknesses; 45mm and 62mm Insulated (which is equivalent to 140mm U-Value).

U-Values provide a measure of heat loss found within building materials used for walls, floors and roofs. If you intend to use your cabin all-year-round, rather than just seasonally, you should choose as thick a wall as possible to maximise the insulation.

Our 45mm walls contain over 60% more wood than a 28mm wall and are ideal for use all-year-round. (U-Value 1.93 w/m2 k)

Our 62mm walls are a triple tongue and groove sandwich of timber and polyisocyanurate insulation. This achieves a U-Value equivalent to 140mm walls. (U-Value 0.59w/m2 K)
