The world of employment is changing. More people are working from home, starting their own businesses or working privately in their spare time. For many people, a garden office is an essential element of this process. So where do you start and how do you design it?
First of all, you need to identify exactly how you will be working. We know this sounds like a strange question but, working environments are changing rapidly! Emails, hard-drives, Skype, FaceTime, Cloud, and Social Media have made the need for filing cabinets, office phones and even franking stations obsolete. What are you going to be doing within your office is a major contributing factor in choosing the right one, for instance a gardener will not need a large office as they will be working mainly in the garden and will be using the office for consultations and admin work whereas a seamstress will need some space to roll out their fabric on a craft table.

You need to ask yourself these questions, along with various others such as if you need insulation to keep the office quiet when you are on the phone do you multitask?, Do you need extra storage for your clutter? All these will need to be answered before buying so you know exactly what you are looking for.
Once you have answered the above and have a general idea surrounding your garden office. Now you need to think about where you are going to put the office. Will it be at the end of your garden, away from all the distractions of the house? Or will it be closer to the building itself so you can keep an eye on what is going on whilst still working? Now you have the location planned, how are you going to fill it? Analyse your movements when at work, if you speak on the phone whilst going through a filing cabinet or paperwork, ensure this is located close to you.
