Climbing Frames Tested For Safety
Climbing Frames Safety As Standard

Safety As Standard

The safety of your children is of the utmost importance to us, therefore our climbing frames and play systems are put through rigorous independent tests to ensure that they are as safe as possible. We thoroughly check each and every feature to ensure that the climbing frame will not buckle, there is no chance of any little heads or feet becoming trapped and that there’s no snags to rip clothes or catch their skin. Add this to our strong long lasting synthetic ropes, clamp style hooks and rounded safety caps all coming as standard on our play systems and climbing frames.

Our climbing frames are independently tested to comply with EN71 / Toy European Safety Standards. They are also UKCA rated. This testing includes hanging weights culminating in 200kg, 10x the average weight of a six year old, to the swing hooks where they are left for hours. They also add 100kg weights to the platforms to ensure they are strong and sturdy. To make sure your kids don’t catch their clothes or trap their feet when playing, they use gauges and toggles to assess all gaps. Safety really is our top priority. Why would you look anywhere else?

10 year guarantee

Climbing Frame 10 Year Timber Guarantee
Climbing Frame 10 Year Timber Guarantee II

10 Year Timber Guarantee

All of the timber in this climbing frame has been pressure treated to ensure it lasts. Pressure treatment forces the wood preservative into the timber rather than simply dip treating (essentially just covering the exterior) like many companies still do.

Unlike some competition, we can offer a genuine 10-year guarantee against wood-eating fungal and insect infestation on pressure-treated timber. We’ve also tested our treated timber to the European safety standard EN71-3 to ensure that the chemicals are safe to use on children’s products.

All our Pressure Treated timber is for User Class 3

Metal Ground Anchors

Climbing Frame Metal Ground Peg

Metal Ground Anchors

We know that your children will run, jump and climb enthusiastically over the climbing frame which is why you need to ensure your climbing frame is secure. Unlike the flimsy plastic pegs, some other companies offer, we supply you with sturdy 530mm long galvanised metal ground anchors. These anchors feature large metal disks which you bury deep within the ground to stabilise your climbing frame. This means, that unless the ground is overly soft, you won’t have to concrete your climbing frame to the ground.

Unlike many manufacturers, we supply our ground anchors completely free of charge.

Clamp Style Swing Hooks

Clamp Style Swing Hooks

Many of our competitors attach their swings to their climbing frames via a simple bolt that has been drilled through the middle of the timber. Over time, as your children swing back and forth, the constant strain and movement will cause the timber to weaken. Our clamp style swing hooks wrap around the timber, keeping the timber in one piece, giving additional reinforcement.  This method of attachment not only adds strength and safety but also makes swapping accessories simple.

10mm Rope on Swings

+

Climbing Frame 10mm Rope On Swings
Climbing Frame 10mm Rope On Swings II

10mm Synthetic Rope

We don’t use metal chains on our swings as these can become rusty over time, especially when exposed to constant rain. Chains can also easily trap your child’s hair or fingers while they are playing. We use 10mm thick twisted rope made from a synthetic long-lasting material, which has smooth welded plastic joints so are built to last. These are easily adjustable so, as your children grow, they won’t become too big for the climbing frame accessories.

High Quality Accessories - Optional

We don't offer cheap flimsy accessories, unlike some competitors. Our climbing frame accessories are all designed for strength and manufactured to a high quality standard.

Comfortable Swings

Comfortable Swings

We want your children to be comfortable whilst they are playing. Our swing seats are made with thick plastic that is moulded for both durability and comfort rather than the flimsy plastic wrap around seats some companies offer.

Rounded Safety Caps

Rounded Safety Caps

All the nuts and bolts used in this play system are safely covered up with our plastic caps (supplied as standard). This gives added protection to your child against knocks, bumps and prevents their clothes from catching.

Strong Braces

Climbing Frames Strong Braces
Climbing Frames Strong Braces II

Strong Braces

As your Climbing Frame is going to be used for years to come, we want to make sure you have a strong structure. We use multiple brace points throughout the climbing frame for added strength. We also prefer to use bolts, rather than screws, at key stress points and even pre-drill these holes to help you get the positioning exactly right and save you time.

Fixings Included

+

Climbing Frames Fixing Pack
Climbing Frames Fixings Included

Free Fixing Pack

There is nothing more annoying than being in the middle of building something and finding that you don’t have the right fixings to continue. We include all of the screws, nails and fixings that you will need to put your climbing frame together – not many of our competitors are that thoughtful. This eliminates the need to worry about the type of screws or the length of nails you might need to get started – it’ll all be with your delivery.

We totally understand that DIY is not for everyone and it can be very overwhelming to start building your own garden product. Therefore, you may want to consider getting in touch with a local carpenter or handyman to install it for you.

Our deliveries take place Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm.

When the delivery vehicle is unloaded, it is important that you check to make sure all of the items and instructions have arrived and are correct. You will also receive a component list to check your items against. If anything is missing or damaged, it is essential that you note this on your paper work when you hand it back to the delivery driver.

Prices for our delivery services can be found on individual products.

Please note that goods will be delivered to the first point of contact at the front of your property e.g. on your driveway. This must be within 20m from the delivery vehicle (Safely Parked at Kerbside). Our team will be responsible for assessing the risk of carrying out delivery upon arrival at the property.

Should you require further information on our assisted delivery services, please click here to read our Terms and Conditions, alternatively you can contact a member of our Sales Team.

Q: Where can I find more information?

A: If you have any questions regarding your delivery, you can telephone our Dispatch Team. Contact details for the Dispatch Team of your nearest branch can be found on your order confirmation. If you need to track your delivery or access your manuals in advance of your delivery, you can visit the Customer Log In Area of our website https://dunsterhouse.co.uk/customer-login-area/log-in

Thank you for taking the time to read about our terms and advice during this period. We hope you can enjoy your Dunster House garden product for many years to come.

To ensure the very best quality, we only use slow-grown White Spruce Timber, which is harvested in cold climates to ensure solid, dense log rings. This gives the wood superior strength and longevity, and also a much more consistent colour than the likes of Pine.

Despite the care we take in selecting the very best Timber available, it’s not like predictable brick or cold steel, this natural material has characteristics and quirks unique to every log.

Because our timber logs once fed water and nutrients back and forth from its roots to its leaves, its very nature is to be porous and swell up when it gets wet. Any wooden product will do this throughout its life, but there are a few things you can do to help limit this movement.

These include:

1. A great design!

  • Don’t worry, we’ve got this one covered. We’re experts when it comes to all things timber, so we have designed our products from the ground up with its natural properties in mind.

2. Water Repellent Treatment.

  • How you customise and decorate your product is up to you, however we would recommend that you use an appropriate water repellent treatment. This really helps minimise the amount of moisture that the timber can absorb. Therefore minimising the risk of any major movement.
  • (Please note: water repellent treatment is not the same as pressure treatment, which protects against rot and insect infestation, and which we guarantee for 10 Years!)
  • On pressure-treated timbers, you may notice some subtle striation marks. These marks sometimes appear during the drying process of timbers. Fear not! In time, the marks will begin to fade as the sun starts to lighten the wood.

Striaton

3. Ventilation.

  • Keeping your timber building ventilated is no less important than keeping your house well ventilated. This is especially true if you plan to cover up your floorboards with something (double check with an expert, that the material is suitable to do so), as moisture can become trapped between layers of non-breathable materials and build-up, leading to floors becoming rotten.

4. Regular Seasonal Maintenance.

  • Whether you opt to build your product yourself, don’t be afraid to tighten the odd bolt here and there. Your product is a life improving investment, so it’s only right to give it some love and care from time to time. Make sure that it’s properly treated before the rainy months, and you make adjustments to doors and window frames, when needed.

Natural Timber Properties

After building your timber product, this natural construction will begin to ‘settle’. This means that you will likely see some natural timber imperfections appear. These types of natural imperfections can include:

  • Cracks

Cracks On Wood

  • Splits

Splits On Timber Held With A Green Rounded Safety Cap

  • Shakes

Shakes On Wood Panel

  • Warping / Twisting

Warped wood panels, twisted Wood panels

  • Expansion and Contraction

Expansion And Contraction Of Wood On Garden Building

Please be aware that, as these are natural timber properties they are not considered as defects under our Terms & Conditions (for more information, check out our Ts&Cs here). However, in most cases, these imperfections will not impact the integrity or function of your timber product, and/or can easily be rectified. For advice on how to rectify these and for more support, please get in touch with our Customer Services Team on cs@dunsterhouse.co.uk.
