Meet the new Dunster House Installer Team You

Our Garden Buildings come with the best Dunster House installer team around – you! We know it can seem overwhelming when you first hear that we don’t offer installation on any of our Garden Buildings. As our customer reviews show, there is no need to worry.

If you need to access a copy of your instructions you can do that by logging into our customer portal.

Whether doing it alone or with a little help from family and friends, our products can often be built in as little as a weekend. We’ve put together some helpful tips to make it even easier.

Do Your Research

Building a Garden Building is not a project to start without doing your research first.

Our buildings come to you with all the fixings you will need so you won’t need to make any last-minute dashes to the local hardware store. All you need to do is make sure you have all of the tools you need to hand. Make sure you keep them clearly visible and within easy reach, you don’t want to be trying to hold a fixing in place only to discover the tools are just out of your grasp.

Along with all the fixings, we supply easy-to-read instructions. We would advise you to take some time and read these thoroughly, perhaps more than once, to make sure you understand them. Keep these close to you while you are building so you can refer back to them as many times as you need during construction.

A friendly tip we have is to put the instructions in a plastic wallet while you build your Garden Building as it helps keep the pages clean from any spills or debris.

We know that some DIY connoisseurs are more visual learners which is why our YouTube channel is full of helpful videos and guides. Be sure to have a look if there are any aspects of the instructions you don’t fully understand – it is much easier to watch the video before building than during (which is why we ask you to read the instructions first)

Take Your Time

Do not rush the construction of this Garden Building. By opting to build it yourself you can take control of the building schedule. You are not restricted or have to stay indoors whilst an installation team builds it. The building can stop if you have to go to the shops, have a last-minute appointment or need to stop for the day.

You want to enjoy your Garden Building as soon as possible. As we have said, they can be built in as little as a weekend with a little bit of effort. Block out a chunk of your time and commit to the project. Why not put on some music and make an afternoon of it?

After conducting all the research and starting the prep work, you may still not feel like this is within your capabilities. If this is you, don’t worry, a DIY capable tradesman will make easy work of constructing your Garden Building. Just be aware that this will require you to have availability around their schedule so construction may not be as flexible as if you were doing it yourself.

It’s All About that Base

A wooden floor frame is being built on a concrete base, surrounded by a fence and greenery.

Unless you have bought one of our RapidGrid foundation bases, you need to work out what type of base you would like for your Garden Building and prepare it. Many people opt for a concrete base which is a long-lasting and durable option, as long as it is a flat and level surface. Although this will require a bit of pre-planning as you need your floor to be built, and dried before you start constructing your Log Cabin.

Our RapidGrid Foundations are relatively straightforward to build, going together like a jigsaw. Unlike concrete, it will not take days of preparation. It will still require you to dig 30 – 40mm below the grass line to place them in and to purchase the shingles or gravel you will need to fill them with.

We have an article regarding concrete and RapidGrid foundations to help you make your choice.

A wooden garden cabin is under construction. The walls and roof frame are partially completed, with a ladder leaning against the side and a wooden deck being built below.

Try Not to Get Stressed

Screaming at the latest flat-pack undertaking is a right of passage for many of us. There may be times during your construction that you get frustrated. Having years of experience in installing products, both personally and professionally, we have been there ourselves. The biggest tip we can give you is to not get stressed.

This is easier said than done, we know. When things are getting difficult, or you have accidentally caught your thumb with the hammer for the umpteenth time, it can seem overwhelming. Take a step back and grab a cup of tea to relax, or even leave it for the day and come back to it tomorrow. That is the benefit of building your own Garden Building, you choose how and when you do it. Just ensure you fully cover it with a waterproof material to keep it guarded from the elements.

Now we have put your mind at ease, you only have one hard decision to make. Which Garden Building best suits your needs? Why not visit our website and have a look? Our sales team is always happy to answer any questions you may have. Give them a call on 01234 272 445 to discuss your options.
