Chris’ Garden Office

Chris and his family needed space to expand their home to include an office, so they purchased a Dominator Pressure-Treated Office from Dunster House. They hoped to gain a multifunctional space that met the family’s needs, from an office to a band practice area to a study room.

The Purpose

A garden office was needed in this family home as an extension had been planned and completed but didn’t leave room for a workspace, so they decided that a garden building would be the best solution. It also ended up being a great space for relaxing and for Chris to practice his music.

The Model

The Dunster House Pressure Treated Dominator Garden Office was the eventual pick for their garden room. Chris says that he “had my[his] eye on Dunster House Garden Offices for a while due to their excellent value and fantastic versatility” and at the time of purchase “the pressure treated dominator was a brand new release for Dunster House, and came with UPVC doors and windows and an updated design”. 

Features

The design inspiration Chris used when planning the interior of his garden office was a dark grey and walnut wood theme, which gives it an earthy and cosy, yet modern feel. To help with this some slatted wood, plants, ambient lighting and a wood click-and-connect floor. For extra privacy and security, modern pleated stick-and-fit blinds were added.

Chris used creative and inventive ways to maximise the space for his needs; an example of the is the desk space created using a kitchen work top placed upon two drawer units. Even with this expansive desk there was still room to include a large cupboard unit with slat wood doors, a peg board, a dart board, a comfortable office chair, a fridge, and a radiator and air con unit.

The helpful features added by Chris didn’t stop there. For the WIFI and electricity needed Chris ran some 10mm armoured cable and CAT6 up the garden through a trench. Inside the office is a separate fuse box which runs to 3 double sockets, and an LED strip bar. The exterior of the office has a 7.5kw electric car charger, installed on the back wall.

Impact

Adding a garden office to the garden has allowed for improvement in both the family’s professional and personal life. For Chris the garden office allowed him to “work much more efficiently in my[his] job, increased my[his] work flow and allowed for private un-disturbed calls” while Victoria has used the space to tutor students.

When the work day ends the garden office is used as a retreat to relax in the evenings. With the dart board, fridge, ample storage space, and spacious room the office can offer a place to enjoy free time whether that be playing dart or jamming with the band.

The family have plans to use for “future band practices, growth in my career, and hopefully be used by my[his] daughter one day as a place to complete her school work”. This investment now has given them a space they can use in all seasons for years to come.
