Buying Considerations
Before choosing your Addroom conservatory alternative, it’s worth taking a moment to think through a few practical details. A little planning upfront will help ensure your garden room extension fits beautifully with your home, garden, and lifestyle.
Consider the Size of Your Outdoor Space
Start by looking at the space you have available and how you’d like your Addroom home extension to sit within it.
Measure the width and depth of the area where you plan to install your new structure, and think about how it will connect with your home. The aim is to create an extension that feels natural, not something that overwhelms the garden or disappears into it.
Plan Ahead
A few practical decisions early on can make the process much smoother.
Think about:
- What base will your Addroom sit on?
- Will you build it yourself or hire installers?
- How will the structure integrate with your home?
None of these decisions needs to be complicated, but planning ahead will save time and ensure everything runs smoothly on your delivery and installation day.
Choose Your Style
One of the most exciting parts of the process is choosing the design that suits your home!
With multiple wall configurations and layout options available – check out our full range here – you can create a space that feels fully integrated with your property while reflecting your personal taste.
Whether you prefer the light-filled look of glazed walls or a more structured feel with dwarf walls, your Addroom can be tailored to complement both your home, your preference, and garden.
Choosing the Right Base
Your Addroom needs a stable, level base to ensure it performs well for years to come. It is important that the Addroom has a strong foundation to be built upon.
Every Addroom includes pressure-treated floor bearers as standard, which help protect the structure against rot, mould, and insect infestation. The timber bearers come with a 10-year guarantee protecting you and highlighting out confidence in the durability of the product.
Depending on your garden and installation preference, there are a few base options to consider:
- Pressure-Treated Floor Bearers (Included) – These sit directly beneath the structure and provide essential support while protecting the timber.
- Concrete Base – A solid concrete base is a popular option for customers wanting a highly durable and long-lasting foundation. The bearers are placed on top of the concrete to support the structure.
- Rapid Grid Base System – Rapid grids are another cost-effective option. These grids are laid on treated ground to create a level, supportive base that is quick to install and ideal for many garden surfaces.
Choosing the right base will depend on your garden conditions, ground level, and installation plans.
Will You Hire Installers?
While many customers enjoy building their Addroom themselves, others prefer to hire professional installers to help bring their new space to life.
We don’t offer an installation service directly, but many experienced installers across the UK can assist with the build if you’d prefer a helping hand.
If DIY isn’t your idea of a relaxing weekend, it’s worth researching local installers who have experience with garden buildings or home extensions. A quick search online or through local directories will point you in the right direction.
Planning Permission
Planning permission is often a concern when adding a structure to your home, but the good news is that many Addroom configurations are designed to help simplify this process.
Our structures are designed to fall within common UK permitted development guidelines, including:
- A maximum height under 2.5 metres
- A total floor area less than 30m²
Because planning regulations vary between local councils and boroughs, we always recommended that customers check with their local planning authority before installation to confirm requirements for their specific property.
A quick check now can save surprises later and help ensure your new space is fully compliant.
