log cabin vs summerhouses

We often get asked ‘What is the difference between summerhouses and log cabins?’ People want additional space in their garden to use for hobbies, relaxing or hosting garden parties with their friends and families. It is easy to be confused when looking on the internet when so many options are put in front of you. Read on and see what we have to say about both! (Remember, this is regarding Dunster House products only, so if you go elsewhere, features will differ).

Quality and Material

In terms of our quality, there is not much difference between our log cabins and summer houses. These are both designed using high-quality, slow-grown spruce timber. They all have pressure-treated bearers that protect against rot and insect infestation for ten years. This means that there is no need to retreat them during this time. Our garden buildings are ideal for either professional or leisure use.

Size and Design

The most obvious difference between the two is the size. Summerhouses are traditionally smaller than log cabins.

If you lack room for a log cabin but want a garden building, consider our summerhouses. Our Vantage range of summerhouses is Parisian-inspired. We offer a wide variety of summer houses in different sizes and styles, ranging from modern to traditional. Rest assured, we have the ideal building to meet your specific requirements and budget.

Add your personal touch to your summer house by applying a stained finish or painting it in your favourite colour. If you need design inspiration, feel free to explore some customer examples here! You can also grab some extra help with examples of decorative ideas you may want to steal.

Variations

Log cabins traditionally have less variation within their range and design, but our range of cabins is quite extensive. Discover our diverse selection of garden buildings available in various sizes, shapes, and styles, ensuring you’ll find the perfect one to meet your needs.

Traditionally used to entertain, these are typically larger than summerhouses. Our ranges offer something for everyone. This means you can have the characteristics of a log cabin and the compactness of a summerhouse.

Security

Further consideration could be the security of the building, depending on what is going to be placed inside. The glass panels used in both our summerhouses and log cabins are 4mm toughened glass, which is internally beaded. These features enhance the durability and resistance of our products against breakages, and scratches, and simplify the cleaning process. Additionally, the internal beading adds an extra layer of security, as it prevents the windows from being removed externally.

The locks on the ranges vary slightly. Both the summerhouse and log cabins have strong locks to keep your belongings safe from unwanted visitors. All our log cabin doors have 4-point locking systems. It means that you can lock up your new entertainment centre and sleep soundly in the evening.

We have worked hard to develop ranges that appeal to everybody’s taste and will complement any garden. Have a summer house the size of a log cabin or vice versa. It is down to personal style and taste; your final choice may simply be down to which one you fall in love with first.
