Maintain Your Log Cabin

To ensure your corner log cabin has a prolonged life, it’s crucial that you take the correct measures to maintain it properly. 

We recommend choosing the right treatment for your log cabin and that you treat it as soon as it’s built. At Dunster House, we offer a variety of wood preservatives that are solvent and water-based, and come in a variety of different colours. In addition to selecting the best log cabin treatment, it’s also important that you re-apply treatment when required. This will depend on the garden log cabin preservative you have chosen.

Furthermore, creating an environment that aids moisture control is an important element in maintaining your corner log cabin. Make sure measures are in place for the roof, floor, foundations and surrounding drainage to help shake off extra moisture and prevent rot, fungal and insect infestations.

Log Cabin Wall Thickness

Our corner log cabins are available in 45mm walll thickness, and come with double glazed windows and doors as standard. 

Our 45mm log walls contain over 60% more wood than a 28mm wall and are ideal for use all year round. These cabins have a U-Value of 1.93 w/m2 k. U-Values provide a measure of heat loss found within building materials used for walls, floors and roofs.

Planning Permission for Garden Buildings

However, before placing an order for your wooden garden building, it’s important to familiarise yourself with any planning permissions or building regulations that may apply in your area.

The good news is that most of our log cabins don’t typically require planning permission. This is due to our unique designs that utilise the maximum width and height available to us.

Although we have a wide range of garden log cabins under 2.5m, some exceptions may still apply. DIY Log Cabins 

All our garden buildings are designed for self-assembly, and come with very detailed pictorial instructions, alongside video tutorials that you can view online. We include all the fixings needed for assembly at no extra cost to you, as we just want to ensure ease when constructing your log cabin. 

When building a Dunster House Corner Log Cabin you don’t need to worry. The notched logs interlock easily into one another, and our windows all come pre-assembled. This means you don’t have to put them together, you just simply need to slot them in. If you wish to add a little character to your windows, they do come with stylish georgian bars, however this is completely optional on whether you want to install them or not. 

Erecting a log cabin, you don’t need to be an expert at DIY. However, if you feel slightly apprehensive to do the construction, a local carpenter or handyman will be able to install it for you.
