Increase your house resilience to climate change

As weather patterns become more unpredictable, solar shading offers flexibility by allowing you to adjust the level of shading according to seasonal and daily changes, ensuring comfort and energy efficiency throughout the year.

Reduces air conditioning needs

Solar shading helps minimise the need for air conditioning by helping to keep buildings from overheating and controlling glare from daylight exposure.

Passive cooling = consumes no energy

Passive cooling is a method of reducing heat in a building without the use of mechanical systems, helping to significantly lower energy consumption, reduce environmental impact, and enhance occupant comfort.

Improves people’s wellbeing

Solar shading systems contribute significantly to the overall wellbeing of individuals and families, promoting a healthier, more comfortable, and more pleasant living environment.

With the adjustable louvre mechanisms, you can freely adjust the amount of shade that your brise soleil provides whenever you need to. You can open each panel individually, giving you complete control over how much shade or sunlight you want.

Unlike a traditional brise soleil which normally includes fixed shade panels, the adjustability means that you can allow more or less light into your property when you choose.

Brise Soleil cantilevered louvre panels

We use strong 86mm x 86mm posts made from high-quality spruce, pressure treated for long-lasting durability. Our Brise Soleil Pergolas combine robust strength with sleek design to provide optimal sun protection and enhance your outdoor space!

Brise Soleil Lean To Pergola Strong 86mm Posts

All of our timber Pergolas, Gazebos, Carports and Porches are fully pressure treated as standard. We take the pre-cut lengths of timber and place them in a large pressure treatment tank, where the timbers are impregnated with a non-toxic preservative. We add a colourant during this process, giving the timber a rich brown colour. By pressure treating the timber, we can offer a genuine 10-year guarantee against rot and insect infestation. We only suggest that you apply a good quality water repellent to prolong the longevity of the timber.

All our Pressure Treated timber is for Use Class 3. It involves the application of preservatives using a vacuum.

 Pressure treated Pergolas and gazebos

The below image is a figurative example of how pressure treatment penetrates wood more effectively than the dip treatment technique which does not penetrate wood in the same way, often only providing a surface coat of treatment and stain. This method therefore offers less resistance to rot and decay.

Pressure treated timbers

Unlike some competitors, we pressure treat our timbers and what is more, we treat only after cutting to ensure no timber ends are left exposed!

A lot of dip-treated sheds require a preservative to be added upon installation or within one year of purchasing their sheds. Ours do not require this, saving you time and money!

We only use high-quality spruce timber on our wooden products rather than cheap pine or mixed timber.

We responsibly source all our timber, where it grows slowly in the cold northern regions. We all know the old adage of counting the rings to see how old a tree is, well our timber grows slower and takes longer to get to size meaning it has more rings in it. This means it has a tighter grain, and each ring helps prevent cracks and shakes from appearing in the densely packed timber.

Our wooden garden structures really are built to last therefore we use only the highest quality, slow-grown spruce.  Spruce is much more resilient to warps and splits compared to its cheaper alternative pine. Being a whitewood, it doesn’t discolour anywhere near as much as pine so it is also much more aesthetically pleasing for a garden structure. Considered more stable, less knotty and resinous than pine, spruce will also produce a lot less sap. It is also less dense meaning it is not as susceptible to mould and rot.

Outdoor Living Slow Grown Spruce

Outdoor Living Slow Grown Spruce II

All our garden structures have been designed on the basis that any competent DIY customer should have no problem installing a product themselves in a short amount of time. You do not have to be an expert at DIY to build a Dunster House garden structure, as we do provide you with comprehensive pictorial instructions. We totally understand that DIY is not for everyone therefore, you may want to consider getting in touch with a local carpenter or handyman to install it for you.

All of the timber in this garden building has been responsibly sourced and pressure-treated to ensure it lasts. Pressure treatment forces the wood preservative into the timber rather than simply dip treating (essentially just covering the exterior) like many companies still do.

Unlike some competition, we can offer a genuine 10-year guarantee against wood-eating fungal and insect infestation on pressure-treated timber.

All our Pressure Treated timber is for Use Class 3.

10 Year Guarantee on Pressure Treated Timber

For your ease and convenience, we include all the screws, bolts, nails and other fixing needed to put together your structure. There’s no need to worry about what sort of bolts or size of nails you’ll need. We include all the right fixings for the job as standard.

*Brackets and fixings required to attach the structure to your wall and floor are not included. As different types of surfaces require different fixings, you will need to seek professional advice as to which fixings to use.

A brise soleil is an architectural solar shading feature, often used in modern buildings, that helps control sunlight and heat gain. The term originates from French, meaning “sun breaker” or “sun baffle.”

Brise soleil can take various forms, but it typically consists of horizontal or angled slats, louvres, or fins installed on the exterior of a building facade. These elements are designed to shade windows and reduce the amount of direct sunlight entering the interior spaces, minimising glare, and heat buildup. A brise soleil can enhance energy efficiency by reducing the need for artificial cooling and lighting, while also adding aesthetic appeal to the building’s design.

Our timber structures are designed to protrude from the face of a building over a large glass elevation such as a window or a rear patio door. These timber Louvre structures cantilever off the face of the building and provide overhead shade for the glass elevation.

The structures themselves are made of timber with flat timber slats (louvre panels) built into the structure which can be adjusted when required.

The benefits of a brise soleil are:

Solar Shading Glare Reduction Daylighting Optimisation Aesthetic Enhancement Environmental Sustainability Privacy and Security

Read our blog to find out more about how a Brise Soleil can benefit you.

Yes, you can! Unlike a traditional brise soleil which is often designed with fixed timber slats, we have designed our brise soleil to contain individually adjustable louvre panels. This means that you can freely adjust the amount of shade that your brise soleil provides whenever you need to. You can have the louvre panels open more in the winter to allow more natural light in and closed in the summer to increase solar shading.

This Garden Structure is 2.39m (7' 10.25") high

We offer a genuine 10-year guarantee against rot and insect infestation on all pressure treated timber.
