Apex Log Cabin

An apex roof, also known as a gable roof, is a popular and traditional roof style with two sloping sides that meet at a central ridge. The structure of this roof type has two sloping sides, forming a triangular roof shape, with the highest point (ridge) at the centre.

Depending on the use for your cabin and location you decide for it, you may want to have a think about choosing between a pent log cabin or apex log cabin.

Log Cabin Design

One of the main factors when deciding which log cabin roof to choose, is personal preferences in appearance. Apex roofs are a classic and timeless architectural style, offering a pleasing and symmetrical look that fits well with various building designs, from traditional to modern. A log cabin with an apex roof will have a traditional chalet look, evoking images of quaint Alpine ski lodges and rustic cabins in the woods. Meanwhile, a pent roof log cabin will have a more modern and contemporary feel. Opt for a log cabin that will blend in naturally to your surroundings or stand out and make a statement. Be guided by your own tastes and style, and the environment in which you plan to place your log cabin.

Roof Structure

The steep slope on both sides of an apex roof allows rainwater and snowmelt to quickly drain off, reducing the risk of water pooling and potential leaks. In all honesty, an apex roof is just as effective as a pent roof. The triangular shape of the gable roof provides structural stability, making it sturdy and resistant to strong winds and other weather elements. The design of an apex roof with two sloping sides also allows for large windows on both ends, maximising natural light penetration into the interior space.

Do I need planning permission for apex log cabins
