  • Avoid planning permission
This building is under 2.5m high.
Why does this matter? Well, under permitted development rights buildings under 2.5m high can be placed as close as you want to a boundary (eg. a fence line) without planning permission. Buildings that are over 2.5m high, however, need to be placed over 2m away from any boundary (eg. a fence line), which means that with taller buildings you end up with a lot of space behind them. If you want to find out more about permitted development rights see our planning guide
  • Adjustable storm braces
Our adjustable storm braces tie the log cabin roof to the rest of the building so it withstands stronger winds. Unlike other cabins on the market they are adjustable to allow for the natural movement of the cabin which helps prevent gaps appearing between wall logs as the logs settle and move.
  • Slow Grown Spruce
We use slow grown spruce for the walls of all our log cabins as it is better all round than pine! Spruce is less porous than Pine and so less likely to shrink, warp or split. We only select slowly grown timber from colder climates which also helps keep the timber more stable as the rings are densely packed. It is also a less resinous timber than Pine, which makes the possibility of sap ruining your clothes or furnishings much less likely.
  • 4mm toughened glass
We use 4mm toughened glass in our windows and doors for increased safety and security. It's much better than 3mm horticultural glass, commonly found in garden buildings, as it's a lot harder to break, and if ever it is broken it breaks into small pieces rather than large shards. It is also much harder to scratch than the plastic alternatives, styrene, acrylic and perspex, so will preserve your clear view out for far longer.
    Pressure treated bearers
By pressure treating our floor bearers we protect the lowest part of the building from rot and insect infestation. This forces the treatment deep into the timber using a large pressure treatment tank. Due to this costly but effective process we can offer our customers a genuine 10 year guarantee against rot and insect infestation on the bearers with no need for the customer to re-treat this timber at any point during that time.
    10 year timber guarantee?
Other companies claim that they offer a 10 year Guarantee on their untreated timber. If you read the small print, you'll find that these Guarantees are pointless. They cover the cabin against rot and insect infestation only if you, the customer, treat the cabin every year with a good quality preservative. Why are these Companies offering a Guarantee for something that you are going to have to do yourself? How could you prove you had treated it if you tried to make a claim? We don't offer pointless Guarantees. We guarantee that our pressure treated timber and our galvanised metal will last for 10 years without yearly labour from you.
  • Customise your design
Our Log Cabins have been designed to fit any garden and accommodate any personal preferences. Where our pictures show the doors on either the left or the right hand side of the front elevation if you want the doors on the other side of the front elevation simply reverse the position of the front wall logs when you build it. You can choose between a traditional or modern style, depending on the type of roof you prefer, and with or without Georgian Bars, to suit your taste.
  • Tall walkthrough height
With our extra tall doors, unless you are over 1.86m (6'1") tall you can walk right the way through without any danger of bumping your head.
  • Avoid sagging roofs
Our heavy duty 140mm or 210mm high by 45mm wide supporting roof beams prevent unsightly sagging.
  • 4 Point Door locking system
Our PremiumPlus doors feature our industry leading four point locking system. It features a hook, locking latch and two roller locks. We use a type of lock known as a RASP cylinder. The reason we use this, is that it is a safer, more secure locking system as it prevents 'lock bumping' and 'cylinder snapping'. Our Premiumplus windows have multipoint locking as well, using the same type of system as we supply with our uPVC windows and doors.
  • Optional 24mm Double Glazing
The double glazing option on PremiumPlus Log Cabins is an industry leading 24mm thick. We make these sealed units ourselves to European Standard EN1279. Made up of 4mm toughened glass, 16mm spacer and another piece of 4mm toughened glass. It's an excellent way of insulating your cabin and extending its usage from a seasonal building to one that can be used throughout the year.
  • Adjustable Hinges/Friction Stays
Our PremiumPlus doors feature easily adjustable hinges allowing you to make minor changes if ever required. The windows on this range have the same friction stays as we supply on our uPVC windows, meaning that you can open the window and leave it open with just the hinges taking the load, with no need for a stay arm. These sets of hinges are stylish and supremely user friendly.

Average Seller Rating:

The log cabin is a quality product, much more substantial than a standard garden shed. To erect it your self you need some confidence and woodwork experience. My main complaint is with the instructions. They are not presented in a way that is easy to navigate by a novice. I will be much better and quicker erecting my second cabin having learnt from making mistakes with the first one! I may be making excuses but better presented instructions that were specific to the version of the model I had bought and contained more pictures and step by step instructions, highlighting likely errors and crucial aspects to get right would have made the process much easier. If sections of the instructions were tagged to a version of the cabin that they applied to in a documents system, a bespoke set could be produced for each purchase in one package.

Hello Hugh. Thank you for your review. We are glad that you're satisfied with the quality of our cabins. Our instructions manuals are mostly generic but we do complement them with some detailed and explanatory Youtube videos.

Purchasing a Dunster House log cabin 5 years ago was the best money I have ever spent. I initially used it as my business for private practice counselling, saving me a fortune in office rental. For the last year, however, it has become my writing space where my first novel is almost complete. When I retired I redecorated the inside to be 'girly'pink as I wanted a totally feminine space. It developed into a theme of birds and birdhouses, quite apt for a garden she-shed. I painted an old chair pink and covered its seat with suitable material, hung pink voile curtains and replaced the brown cushions with fluffy hearts and shabby chic ones you see in garden centres but don't buy for the home. I recommend Dunster House to those who enquire about my special place, the service is excellent and the price reflects the quality and serviceability. Its uses are endless depending on ones hobbies.

the delivery driver was very helpful, giving tips on how to prep and build the cabin. the instructions could be a little better, had to read them a few times but the online videos are a big help. the cabin itself is very well made with all the pieces fitting together with no modifying. all in all a very good experience from start to finish. thank you dunster house.

The summer house is well-designed and constructed, though some of the timber around the windows and doors was a bit rough and needed sanding. Also, the doors are going to need some adjustment. I had the summer house erected by Dunster staff and they did a good job. I have painted the summerhouse duck-egg blue, with cream windows and doors, and it looks very attractive. Overall I am very pleased with the product and would purchase from Dunster again.

Raymond, what a great colour choice, we would love to see photos. We keep our blades sharp in our production mill to try to ensure smooth paned surfaces but occasionally some bits of timber will need sanding.
