An outdoor office is essentially a workspace that is set up in an outdoor location, such as a back garden. With an office outside, you can work closely in the surroundings of nature in your own green retreat. This allows for a peaceful working environment without the hustle and bustle or noise of a busy office. You can stay focused on your work tasks, increasing your productivity.
Outdoor Home Office
Working from home provides greater flexibility, leaving you more time to relax, spend with loved ones, or for other commitments. There’s no more needing to commute, so you can save on travel costs as well as have more time. You can reduce the stresses of peak time traffic and not have to rush around in the mornings. Your office will be just a few steps away.
Outdoor Office Space
There are many benefits to working from home, but one of the downsides is that it takes up space in the house. To work efficiently you really need a dedicated area designed for work purposes. Sharing your desk with the dining table is not ideal. And if your house is already bursting at the seams for space, you may not have a suitable spare room to use either. The solution is to set up an office space outdoors in the garden. Fully maximise the space you have by putting your garden area to good use. Outdoor offices can be a great way to improve your homeworking experience.
Outdoor Office Building
As more people work remotely, and are looking for alternative workspaces that allow them to escape the confines of their home, outdoor offices have become increasingly popular. Home office spaces can range from a simple table and chair set up to a fully equipped workspace complete with electricity and Wi-Fi.
A detached outdoor office building will provide privacy and security to your workspace. Separate from the house, you will be away from distractions and free to concentrate on work. You can easily keep your office space organised, and keep unwanted interruptions out. Create the perfect balance between your home and work life. Another great thing about having an outdoor office is that you can fully switch off and leave the office behind at the end of the day. You can banish reminders of work to the outdoors, and just spend time relaxing or with the ones you love.
Insulated Outdoor Offices
To make the most of your outdoor office experience, there are a few things you can do to ensure your workspace is comfortable and productive. First, make sure you have all the necessary equipment and supplies, such as a comfortable chair, a sturdy desk or table, and reliable Wi-Fi connection. If you plan to work outside for long periods of time, you may want to invest in a fully insulated garden office building. This will ensure that you have a comfortable working environment all year round.
Our high quality modern offices come fully insulated with insulation in the walls, floor and roof. We use some of the best insulating materials around for high thermal efficiency. The windows and doors also come double glazed. Therefore, an insulated garden office can feel just as cosy as working inside the house.
Wooden Outdoor Offices
If you run a small business from home, then you will need some professional looking premises. An outdoor office makes the ideal location to set up an arts and crafts room, music studio, dog grooming parlour or beauty salon. A dedicated space where you can pamper clients in privacy, be creative, or make as much mess and noise as you like without disturbing the rest of the house.
Log Cabin Outdoor Offices
Our range of garden log cabins are great for use as a garden office space. Available in a variety of different sizes and styles, they are perfect for adding extra room to your home. With opening windows and wide French doors, you can keep your outdoor office well ventilated and also let in an abundance of natural light.
Our log cabins feature toughened glass, pressure treated floor bearers, and an industry leading 4-point door locking system. The windows also have unique friction stays and multi-point locks with key locking handles. Although seen as the budget option, we don’t skimp on quality when it comes to our log cabin offices. The windows and doors are of a domestic standard to ensure your valuable equipment is secure.
Outdoor Office Pod
Work in comfort and style with one of our outdoor office pods. Our garden buildings range from traditional log cabins with interlocking walls to contemporary styles with structurally insulated panels (SIPs). Designed for the DIY market, our garden offices come supplied with everything you need for assembly and full pictorial instructions.
Outdoor Office Rooms
Not just for use as an office, your outdoor room can become a multi-functional space to adapt to your needs. Double up the use of the building as an office by day and an entertainment or relaxation area by night. Keep it as your personal work space during the week, and a family room at the weekends. You can use garden rooms as extra space for a home gym, summerhouse, games room, pub shed or man cave. Use the additional room as a quiet sanctuary, work area, social space, or somewhere to enjoy your hobbies.
Maintain your Outdoor Office
Outdoor buildings will eventually deteriorate over time as they are constantly exposed to the elements. That’s why it is so important to maintain your wooden office. This way you can prolong its life and ensure it is fully functional for as long as possible.
Our pressure treated timber offices come with a 10 year guarantee against rot and insect infestation. You will not need to keep retreating the building every year, but we do recommend applying a water repellent. For more information, take a look at our garden office maintenance guide.
There is not much maintenance to perform with a Wood Polymer Composite (WPC) garden office, but it will benefit from having the external walls wiped down with warm soapy water every once in a while. Our modern garden offices are designed with style, comfort, and low maintenance in mind.
Log cabins are supplied untreated, so will need to be painted with some form of preservative as soon as they are built. The treatment will then need to be reapplied as and when required. For more information, take a look at our how to maintain your garden log cabin guide.
The outdoor office will also need to have good ventilation and have sufficient drainage around it, to help with moisture control and prevent damp. You will also need to make regular checks on windows and doors to ensure they stay in good working order.
Planning Permission for Outdoor Offices
Garden buildings do not usually need planning permission, as long as they meet certain criteria to fall under permitted development rights. Outdoor buildings over 2.5m high need to be placed more than 2m away from any boundary, which could result in a lot of wasted space. That is why we carefully design our outdoor offices to be under that height, so you can place them wherever you want in your garden. Check the government website for more information, as some exceptions may still apply in your area.
